Accompaniment with Kalika

Aside from offering cello teaching services, Oliver's studio is unique in that professional piano accompaniment can be requested at any time (fees included) to help students prepare for upcoming recitals, performances, exams, or functions.

Kalika Scott (B.Mus, M.Ed) is a pianist with over fifteen years of public and private teaching experience. Her piano journey began at age five, but serious pursuit of the instrument began at age thirteen, under the tutelage of Soosila Hilman. In 2009, at age fifteen, Kalika began teaching piano and music theory at Music Makers in Beenleigh whilst preparing for tertiary auditions.

She was accepted into the UQ School of Music for classical piano performance studies in 2011, under Dr. Liam Viney & Dr. Anna Grinberg, and continued there for two years under their guidance, until, in 2013, she realised, after an Ethnomusicology and Collaborative Composition course with Dr. Robert Davidson, that her true passions lie in composition and musicology.

Kalika completed her undergraduate studies at The University of New England (AU), where she has since undertaken a Master of Teaching (Primary).

Today, when not composing, Kalika primarily works as an accompanist for music exams and eisteddfods, and occasionally as a piano teacher. Thanks to the diversity of her wonderful educators, Kalika has obtained musical knowledge ranging from classical to contemporary styles that has assisted her in guiding students through the AMEB and ABRSM syllabuses (Leisure, Comprehensive, and Repertoire, Grades 1-8) with great success. As a teacher, her style is adaptive, engaging, and well-structured for learners for all ages.

As an accompanist, Kalika is incredibly
familiar with the AMEB and ABRSM cello syllabuses, from Preliminary to AMusA level, having accompanied hundreds of cello students since 2018. She is easy to work with, knowledgeable of important repertoire features, and adaptive during performances, ensuring students are able to play with confidence.
